Description

NGC 7023 is the designation of an open star cluster containing the Iris Nebula in the constellation Cepheus in the northern sky according to the nomenclature of the NGC catalogue. NGC 7023 has an angular extent of 10' × 8'. The Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula lit by a central star of apparent magnitude 7.1.
The object was discovered on October 18, 1794 by the German-British astronomer Sir William Herschel.
